Rolex Sky-Dweller - Ref. 336934
42mm | Oystersteel | Caliber 9001 | Annual Calendar & Dual Time Zone
The Rolex Sky-Dweller is the most complicated watch in the current Rolex catalog - and one of the most ingenious. Introduced in 2012, it combines an annual calendar with a dual time zone display, all controlled through Rolex's patented Ring Command bezel system. The Ref. 336934 in stainless steel with a blue dial democratized what was originally a precious metals-only reference, making this sophisticated traveler's watch accessible to a broader audience without sacrificing any of its mechanical brilliance. For frequent flyers and globe-trotters, there is simply no more practical high complication on the market.
The 42mm Oyster case in Oystersteel commands presence on the wrist while maintaining the clean proportions Rolex is known for. The fluted bezel is not merely decorative - it is the interface for the Ring Command system. Rotate the bezel to one of three positions to select which function to adjust (date, local time, or reference time), then use the crown to make the adjustment. The blue sunray-finished dial features applied hour markers and a 24-hour off-center disc at 9 o'clock for tracking home time. Twelve apertures around the dial's circumference indicate the month - the current month is highlighted in red, while the others remain white. It is a remarkably legible solution to a complex complication.
The Caliber 9001 is a self-winding manufacture movement with 72-hour power reserve, featuring the Saros annual calendar system named after the astronomical cycle of the same name. The annual calendar automatically adjusts for months of 30 and 31 days, requiring manual correction only once per year - at the end of February. The dual time zone display allows tracking of home time on the 24-hour disc while the main hands display local time, adjustable in one-hour increments without stopping the movement. Presented on the Oyster bracelet with Oysterclasp and Easylink 5mm comfort extension. Complete with box and papers, dated 2023.
